The Université Saint-Louis, founded in 1858, is home to 2,800 students from over 60 different countries. Courses at Saint-Louis are taught in a spirit of cultural openness, with emphasis on the international dimension. These courses can be more rigorous than their American counterparts, as students are expected to be self-motivated in preparing for their final project or exam that determines their grade for the course, but that is part of the experience of studying at a European university. The university is primarily a French-speaking school that offers a range of courses at the undergraduate level, taught in French and Dutch as well as some courses in the social sciences taught in English. Université Saint-Louis is known for its friendly atmosphere, and relations between students and professors are relaxed, both in and out of the classroom. The university has three departments–Arts and Letters, Law and Economics, Social and Political Sciences—with particular strength in the social sciences.

Université Saint-Louis is situated in the center of Brussels, the capital of Belgium. It is near two metro stations and ten minutes by foot from Brussels North Station. The university has all the advantages of a large multicultural metropolis and is an ideal environment for learning and research. The city boasts a range of cultural activities and leisure time pursuits for students.

Classes

• USL and Brussels are a particularly good option for Political Science majors, as students can study poli sci while living in the heart of the EU.  Past classes have included field trips to the EU parliament building

• Classes taught in English can be found by following this link. 

• Classes will transfer back to McDaniel as Pass/Fail (i.e., your GPA will not be affected by your grades at USL).

Housing
Université Saint-Louis has a residence hall on-campus, called Ommegang. Students can apply to live there through USL and will be billed for their housing directly by USL.  It is recommended that you live on-campus.  There are third-party housing options, but McDaniel and USL cannot help you make those arrangements or guarantee that they will be good options.

Program Costs
Students pay tuition and fees to McDaniel College and housing costs directly to USL.  Meals are separate.
All financial aid and McDaniel College grants and scholarships can be applied to the Brussels Exchange Program.

Application Process

• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Good disciplinary standing
• Sophomore, Junior, or 1st semester Senior status while participating in the program (exceptions made with special permission from the Dean of Students)
