Program Description:
HeidelbergThe American Junior Year in Heidelberg

Heidelberg offers you a chance to study at Germany’s oldest university, called Ruprecht-Karls-Universität, or Ruperto Carola and currently Germany’s highest ranked university in the QS World University Rankings® 2014/15 (ranked 49th in the world). It is also one of Germany’s universities with Excellence status. Located in the quaint town of Heidelberg with its traditional romantic flair it is committed to the motto Future since 1386.

The relationship between American Junior Year and the Ruperto Carola dates back to 1958 making us one of the oldest American study abroad programs in Germany. At the same time, each year, several Universität Heidelberg students study as exchange students on our home campus at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.

At AJY, we want our students to have the study abroad experience of a lifetime. We support you to become as fluent in German as possible. We assist each individual student in navigating the course catalog with its thousands of courses and finding classes courses in his/her major/minor which fit. We work with you when you pursue individual research or capstone seminar projects. Above all, we present you with choices: Internships, service learning opportunities, extra-curricular activities from animal shelter to opera to zumba – and finally, we encourage you to discover Germany and explore Europe on your own or in small groups with the German Rail and Interrail passes we provide for you.As AJY student, you can select between several types of university housing options. In the AJY Study Center, conveniently located on University Square in the heart of the old city, students relax between classes, watch television, read newspapers and magazines, or use computers and printers for term papers and homework assignments - everything, of course, auf Deutsch!
